I assume that you have seen a paper crane before at least one time in your life.

However, do you know what it is? Do you know its historical story?
A paper crane (we call it Orizuru) is one of a well-known origami model which has been inherited by people g from generation to generation.
Let's have a quick look at the story.
■Paper crane in Edo period■
There is an old saying in Japanese culture:
A crane lives for 1000 years.
and a turtle lives for 10000 years.
Literally as this old saying, a crane was a symbol of a long-living-life for people in Edo period.
They believed that the more they made paper cranes, the longer they could live.
The custom of making paper cranes was originally born from their belief and it became popular and important aspect in their lives.
■Paper crane for making wishes■
Paper crane is special for us, Japanese in terms of making wishes for someone else. Actually, the paper crane is a symbol of peace and love because we believe its wings can bring a fortune for us.
We create paper cranes when something bad occurs such as a natural disaster, becoming illness and other unfortunate event which happens on our family, close friends workmates and other important people for us.
